Delta Hotels By Marriott Burnaby Conference Centre - Delta Hotels By Marriott Burnaby Conference Centre is an 4-star Venue, located in the center of Burnaby. Residing in a 21-story building, the accommodation was opened in 2008 and renovated in 2009. If you’re looking for dim sum specifically, I would suggest going to Grand Dynasty Seafood Restaurant which is attached to The Delta Burnaby Hotel downstairs. It’s one of the fancier Chinese restaurants in Metro Vancouver, but it’s actually very good. Carved slow roast beef with mustard and horseradish, Cabernet jus.

In the beautifully appointed Grand Villa Casino and Delta Hotels Burnaby, Atlas Steak + Fish delivers exactly what Lower Mainlanders are looking for: a modern twist on the New York steakhouse boasting globally inspired cuisine and exquisite service. Tucked into the casino, guests enter an elegant lounge featuring glass-encased bottles of fine wines and a swooping white marble bar curved around a dramatic Boston Baby Grand piano, where several nights a week local pianists tickle the ivories.

In its first year, this 170-seat upscale contemporary restaurant has created a new standard for the casino-style dining experience in Burnaby. Tastefully designed with blue velvet semi-private booths, black marble tables, smoky mirrors and copper Art Deco chandeliers, the sleek space is reminiscent of bygone days.

Leading Grand Villa Casino’s culinary program is Red Seal executive chef and 2014 Culinary Team Canada member, Sylvian Cuerrier. The native French Canadian has honed his gastronomic skills at some of the world’s most esteemed establishments, including a Michelin-starred eatery.

For Cuerrier, every plate starts with the freshest locally sourced ingredients. “We source the best products and let the quality ingredients stand on their own,” adds Cuerrier. “We treat the ingredients with respect and it shows in the quality dishes that come out of the kitchen,” says the chef.

The Carte du jour features various options, including a charcuterie + cheese board, ahi tuna poke and steaks. Depending on what locally-sourced ingredients are available, Atlas Steak + Fish will, from time to time showcase new offerings. Atlas’s greatest hits include its simply divine lobster bisque, Tomahawk pork chop, blue cheese gnocchi and the famous Atlas chilled seafood tower, resplendent with Atlantic lobster tail, king crab legs, seasonal oyster, mussels and poached jumbo prawns served with its in-house gin cocktail sauce and champagne vinegar mignonette.

Atlas also offers a tiered selection of specialty steaks, including Certified Alberta Angus Reserve, B.C.’s Snake River Farms, Double R Ranch source cattle from the Nicola Valley and USDA prime – all cooked to perfection thanks to the Josper oven. This closed charcoal grill/oven is designed to combine roasting and grilling for a flawlessly cooked dish.

At the end of your meal, indulge your sweet tooth with the signature Baked Alaska, flamed tableside.

After attending a disease management workshop on dyslipidemia at the Delta Hotel and Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby, my colleagues and I were treated to dinner at the EBO Restaurant downstairs. EBO may sound Japanese but it actually stands for East of Boundary. They are OceanWise, serving only sustainable, ocean-friendly seafood. I have driven past the casino many times but this was my first time going inside. The parkade across the street is free for casino guests – I was surprised, and I didn’t even have to pay and reimburse.

The executive chef is the award winning Chef Daniel Craig (no, not 007!). We had a set menu tonight for our party. Notice under appetizers
there’s an & sign? Yes, we had both appetizers! I didn’t like the bread so much. They served roasted garlic & black peppercorn baguette, olive baguette, and sesame crackers. Would have been better if made in the house or at least served warm. I guess they don’t have enough volume to bake their own bread.

EBO Chowder

The EBO Chowder ($10) consisted of local spot prawns, dungeness crab, roasted corn, and bacon topped with scallion oil. I enjoyed this. It was a good amount of richness and creaminess, the prawns were a plus too. Now that I think of it, I don’t think I found any dungeness crab in my bowl.

Green Salad
Organic seasonal greens, cashews, and gem tomatoes, tossed in sherry & mustard vinaigrette ($9). I love nuts in my salads and I also drool over vinaigrette sauce. The salad was alright; I would have liked it more with pine nuts instead of cashews, and also more vinaigrette sauce.

8oz. Beef Striploin Steak

The striploin steak ($32) was served on a bed of seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, and pomme puree on the side. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and it was tender enough. This place really reminds me of Chop Steakhouse and Carver’s Steakhouse in Richmond.

Mango Cheesecake

Dessert 1: Mango cheesecake ($10) – layers of mango cheesecake, raspberry & dulce de leche cream, raspberry macaroon. Beautiful presentation, especially with the spiral candy on top. This was the rich type of cheesecake that I like. It was not bursting with mango flavour, just a touch of it and it was not too overpowering. Yum.

Crème Brulée

The crème brulée ($10) really was something special. For a while I stopped ordering the crème brulée at restaurants because I thought they tasted the same everywhere and I haven’t come across any that were outstanding. This was until I had the pistachio crème brulée at the Teahouse in Stanley Park. It was oh-so-good. EBO also impressed me. The custard was so smooth and creamy, while the caramelized sugar wasn’t too thick. The pistachio biscotti and tuille complimented it so well.

My colleague ordered some extra food for take-out so that she could bring it back for her kids. She ordered the EBO Chowder and Salmon. When the waitress brought out the order she mentioned that they threw in a complimentary Green Salad for her too! Service was impeccable, ambience was excellent; would be perfect for a romantic date. Or even family because they have a kids menu for under 12, while those under 6 eat for free. You can even try your luck at a game of Texas Holdem post-dinner!
